Crescent Former

The purpose of the Crescent Former machine is to create a formation between a wire and a forming felt. The headbox is the hydraulic type with multistage diffusers to make stock flow uniform. On request, it can be supplied double-layer. The frames of the wire part are completely constructed in stainless steel Aisi 304 or Aisi 316 on request. The cantilever beams, that support the mechanical stress during the wire change operation, are manufactured in steel and covered with stainless steel Aisi 304 or Aisi 316 on request. The formation area is composed of: a forming cylinder made in cast iron clad with rubber, pneumatically-driven automatic wire guide and electrically-driven wire stretcher systems, a set of rubber-clad steel rollers, oscillating scraper-holders and washers for roller cleaning, and two or more high pressure showers synchronised with the machine speed, for cleaning the wire itself. The forming felt passes from the formation area to the drying section, that can be equipped with a single press (suction) or with two presses (suction and blind drill), with a Yankee cylinder and with a hood. A set of showers and suction boxes allows conditioning of the felt. The creping blade detaches the sheet of paper from the Yankee cylinder and a paper feeding device transfers it to the reeler, where the jumbo roll is formed.

Everything described previously is manufactured with the most advanced technological innovations available on the market today, thanks to the continuous improvements introduced on every new machine and to fifty years' experience in the tissue sector.
Recard has qualified personnel for start-ups, training and supervision.
This makes it possible to carry out modifications even where only expert machine operators will notice. There is an engineering staff able to learn the new modifications and design new solutions, also if of minor importance and not noticeable to the non-experts.
Advantages of Crescent Former

Better paper softness, because of the absence of the pick-up and the presence of the forming felt.
Less dispersion of fines.
Less presence of stickies when recycled paper is used, because of the shorter formation time due to the configuration of the Crescent Former compared to the Twin Wire type.
Softer felt support does not allow the penetration of the stickies in depth and they can be more easily removed.
The cost of the Crescent Former is lower than that of the Twin Wire due to the lack of a wire part.
The machine is also shorter and less space is required for installation.
To rebuild a Plain Wire, Sloped Wire, or Twin Wire into a Crescent Former, the solution is quite straightforward.
The possibility of operating both at low speeds, 400-500 m/min, and at high speeds, 1700-1800 m/min, makes the Crescent Former a versatile machine able to produce high quality paper at low, medium and high production volumes.
The lack of the pick-up makes it possible to produce ultra light paper (up to 10 gsm on the wire). With the Twin Wire this was not possible.
Easy machine operation. The set up of the machine is straightforward, and it is easy to pass from one grammage to another.
